Tips for Buying a New Toilet Seat

If you are moving into a new home, renovating the bathroom, have a damaged toilet seat or simply want to fit in with the festive atmosphere, choosing the right toilet seat is an important and urgent matter. Finding the perfect fit toilet seat will increase the comfort and visual appeal of your bathroom. Here are some details to consider when buying a new toilet seat:

  • The right shape
  • The right size
  • The material
  • The features
  • The mounting

The Right Shape

Why is it so important to determine the shape of the toilet seat first?

Because if the shape of the toilet seat does not match the shape of the toilet, it will not only be visually inconsistent, but the comfort of the seat will also be limited. So when you buy a new toilet seat, make sure that the shape of the seat matches the shape of the toilet. Our WOLTU toilet seat has the most popular round toilet seat, D-shaped toilet seat (also called U-shaped toilet seat), oval toilet seat (also called elongated toilet seat) and square toilet seat.

Round and oval toilet seats look similar at first glance, so how do you know which one you need? You can determine the shape by measuring the distance from the middle of the toilet seat mounting holes to the front edge. If the distance is about 470mm, you need an oval toilet seat. If the distance is about 419mm, you need a round toilet seat.

The Right Size

Now that you've decided on the right shape, let's look at the size.

Although most toilet seat hinges are now adjustable and the toilet seats are universal, we still recommend that you measure the size in advance, especially the length, width and distance between the mounting holes of the toilet seat, just in case.

  1. Distance between mounting holes: Measure from the center of the holes to determine the distance between the mounting holes. When choosing a toilet seat, check the size image to see if it matches.
  2. Length: Measure from the center of the two mounting holes to the front edge of the toilet bowl.
  3. Width: Measure the distance between the outer edges of the toilet at its widest point.

Materials

The most common toilet seats on the market are plastic toilet seats, engineered wood toilet seats and wooden toilet seats.

Plastic toilet seat

There are two types of plastic toilet seats: duroplastic and thermoplastic. Compared with wooden toilet seats, they are cheaper, lighter, waterproof, and easier to clean and maintain. Duroplast toilet seats have good antibacterial properties and durability, with a very hard surface that does not fade easily. It looks like ceramic and matches ceramic toilets very well. There are many colours and designs to choose from, making it a great choice for modern and contemporary bathrooms. At the same time, due to its higher cost than PP, duroplast toilet seats will also be more expensive than other plastic toilet seats.

Engineered wood toilet seat

Manufacturers use recycled wood to grind into wood powder and mix it with resin to make these wooden toilet seats. They are also called enamel wood toilet seats and are cheaper than traditional wooden toilet seats. They can be made and finished in different colours and patterns, and you won't feel cold sitting on them in winter. It is recommended not to splash water on them. If there are water stains, please wipe them off in time to prolong their life.

Wooden toilet seat

Wooden toilet seats are generally considered to be more comfortable and less cold to the touch, especially in winter. Wooden toilet seats are also very strong and durable, but at the same time they are very expensive compared to toilet seats made of other materials.

Features

Soft-close toilet seat

Nobody wants to hear the toilet seat slam shut in the middle of the night, or have their fingers pinched when the seat is lowered. A soft and slow close toilet seat and lid can help prevent these situations.

Quick-release toilet seat

Cleaning a toilet seat can be a tricky task, but the quick-release toilet seat makes it easy and convenient. The seat can be easily released from the hinges to allow the entire toilet seat to be thoroughly cleaned.

Potty training toilet seat

This type of toilet seat is also known as a family toilet seat. A small, child-sized seat is built directly into the lid and seat, making it easier for children to learn how to use the toilet seat. The child seat can be attached to the lid with a magnetic device and removed when not in use, which is convenient and practical.

Of course, you may also consider other functions, such as a night light toilet seat, an intelligent toilet seat, a heated toilet seat, a cushion toilet seat, etc.

Mounting

Depending on the type of toilet, the seat can be installed from the top or from the bottom, and the accessories required for the two installation methods are different. Many WOLTU toilet seats come with both installation accessories, so you can choose according to your needs. If your toilet can be installed both from the top and from the bottom, we recommend that you choose the bottom mounting, which will be more secure and stable.

A toilet seat can make the time you spend in the bathroom more or less pleasant. Why not take some time to think about what you really want and find the best toilet seat for you and your family?
